Abstract: Due to the well-known difficulty of obtaining unique global solutions for the Navier-Stokes equations, it has become common to study equations which approximate the Navier-Stokes equations. In this talk we will discuss some of these so-called alpha models and highlight what makes these equations easier to control than the Navier-Stokes equations. We will primarily focus on a Generalized Navier-Stokes equation with mixed dissipation terms.
