Abstract: Branching laws and reciprocity laws are ubiquitous in representation theory. I will discuss an example that involves (co)branching and reciprocity for representations of the compact orthogonal groups. This example generalizes a classic result obtained independently by Gelbart and Helgason which has received considerable attention over the years. If time allows, I will also sketch some motivations and the method of proof.
