Abstract: Filling in for a fellow graduate student, I received an opportunity to teach two classes of technical calculus this semester in which we were introducing the concept of the derivative. This was a unique circumstance since I have never taught this material before and have not taught for several semesters. Upon reflection of my instruction, I came away with several observations. In this talk, I wish to informally share some of these thoughts.
