Abstract: The purpose of this talk is to give a brief introduction to the theory of algebraic hypersurfaces, focusing on the problem of when two hypersurfaces are isomorphic or close to being isomorphic. Working with explicit examples of hypersurfaces makes it possible to discuss these questions without much background on algebraic geometry. This talk is based on an expository article by Prof. Janos Kollar.
