[Abstract] [PDF]
Abstract: An important aspect of the arithmetic theory of elliptic curves is the (adelic) Galois representation associated to the action of the absolute Galois group on the torsion points. By analogy, one can better understand the arithmetic of certain dynamical systems by associating a Galois representation to the system. We will give an overview of the two natural Galois representations arising in this way, and we will discuss some recent work, some of which is joint with Bridy, Ghioca, Hsia, and Tucker.
