Abstract: This week we will talk about Malgrange's proof of the Newlander-Nirenberg theorem on recognizing/characterizing when a system of PDEs is the Cauchy-Riemann equations in disguise (that is, when we can make a smooth local change of coordinates so that our system of PDEs becomes the Cauchy-Riemann equations). The talk is aimed at students who are not necessarily familiar with PDE methods. Background from the first talk is not needed.
