Mysteries of the Mandelbrot Set Sarah Koch, University of Michigan Host: Bella Tobin This is part of the Distinguished Women in Mathematics Colloquium Series.
Abstract: The Mandelbrot Set lives in the moduli space of quadratic polynomials. It has been extensively studied for decades, but in some ways, it is still rather mysterious. In this talk, we will investigate families of polynomials, which are defined over the integers, whose roots correspond to special points in the Mandelbrot Set. We will present some irreducibility results and state some conjectures and open problems. This talk will be accessible to anyone who has taken complex analysis and algebra.
