Number Friezes: A Follow-up to Conway-Coxeter's Work
David McCaslin, Oklahoma State University
Host: David Wright
[Abstract] [PDF]
Abstract: Number Frieze relationship to triangulated polygons were pre- sented in 1973 by Conway and Coxeter. Since then additional pa- pers and presentations have been done by others including Henry in 2013. Conway and Coxeter’s 1973 publishing was 35 open ended questions followed by answers while Dr. Henry’s work showed there remain some additional details not yet presented. In this talk we will show some properties of Number Friezes in the environment of a commutative number ring $R$ with identity. We will also prove Conway and Coxeter’s main theorem showing the dual relationship between triangulated polygons and closed positive integral Number Friezes.
