Abstract: Shimura varieties of "PEL type" are moduli spaces of abelian varieties with certain extra structure (Polarizations, Endomorphisms, and Level Structure). In this talk we will see several examples of Shimura varieties of PEL type in their various forms as complex manifolds, complex algebraic varieties, varieties defined over number fields, and their integral models.
