Abstract: Prehomogeneous vector spaces are a class of representations that have some useful properties and that arise naturally in Lie theory (and less naturally in invariant theory, analysis, and number theory). In response to popular demand, the basic facts about prehomogeneous vector spaces will be explained with the aid of examples.
