Abstract: Continuing our discussion about dualities in commutative algebra, in this second expository talk we will introduce residual intersections of ideals, which are classically motivated by the study of intersections of algebraic varieties. Taking onto the algebraic perspective, we will explore how residual intersections can be used to study powers of ideals.
