Abstract: Parabolic Induction is a powerful tool in representation theory of $p$-adic groups. In finite group representations, we already encounter the notion of inducing representations from subgroups and see their central role. In the representation theory of reductive $p$-adic groups, induction from certain subgroups, called parabolic subgroups, is key. I will explain the basics of these notions in a pair of talks, following Section 6 of Fiona Murnaghan’s notes.
