Abstract: I'll tell you about some pleasant combinatorics (at least to my mind) that one runs into in counting chains of subspaces of a finite vector space (that is, a finite-dimensional vector space over a finite field). This is part of a project with Jon Cohen and Lucas Smith. The tools are elementary: basic group theory and linear algebra. So, no gastric issues should arise. All will, I hope, be easy to digest.
