Abstract: We consider proper holomorphic maps of complements and differences of balls in complex euclidean space of dimension at least 2. We prove that proper maps of ball complements are necessarily polynomials and raise proper maps of balls. We also show that proper maps of ball differences are necessarily rational and raise proper maps of balls.
