Abstract: Geometric triangulations are a vital tool in understanding the geometry of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. In the spirit of understanding the set of such triangulations of a fixed manifold, we show that there exist infinitely many geometric triangulations admitting no local combinatorial modification which keeps the geometry intact. We also survey what it takes for a 3-manifold to admit infinitely many geometric triangulations.
