Abstract: Before inserting numbers or interpreting graphs, statistics learners must understand the demands of a question or analysis. Learning statistics requires learning about many new terms. The challenge of vocabulary becomes greater when one of two additional problems occurs. Lack of Consensus refers to when a term does not have an agreed-upon definition. Lexical ambiguity refers to when a term has different meaning in statistics than in another context, such as mathematics or everyday life. In this talk, I will present examples of both additional problems, with attempts to propose solutions.
