Nonstandard Analysis and Potential Applications to Number Theory
Samuel Jackson
[Abstract] [PDF]
Abstract: We give an introduction to Nelson's axiomatic nonstandard analysis and internal set theory. We provide an introduction to the axioms of Idealization, Standardization, and Transfer, and discuss some of the important properties of nonstandard analysis. We then discuss possible questions where nonstandard analysis could be applied outside of analysis, specifically focusing on a discussion of open problems in number theory and how nonstandard analysis might be applied.
