Scholarships

To mathematics education majors: I apologize if you are getting this message for the second time. We want to be sure everyone is notified. The Mathematics Department has scholarships for students at all levels whose first or second major is mathematics. If you have already declared mathematics as a second major, then you are eligible for our scholarships. If you have not, then you will be eligible as soon as you complete the attached major declaration form and return it to MSCS 401. You should be aware that when you complete the requirements for a SCED degree with the mathematics option, you will have completed all requirements for a second major in mathematics. You need only complete the attached form to have the second degree noted on your final transcript. The scholarships require a graduation/retention GPA of 3.25 and a mathematics GPA of 3.5. For consideration you need to complete the attached application and return it with an unofficial transcript to MSCS 401 by March 1, 2009. Successful applicants will be notified in April. MCM teams

To: Math majors and other interested students: The Math Contest in Modeling will be held this year on the weekend of February 5-9. It is an intensive weekend event in which teams of 3 students work on open-ended, real-world problems and write up a paper describing their solution. Papers can earn awards of Honorable Mention, Meritorious Achievement, or Outstanding Achievement. Teams earning the Outstanding Achievement designation are considered contest winners. Check out our awards case on the fourth floor of Math Sciences--a plaque commemorates the Outstanding Achievement of an OSU team, Mike Oehrtman, Jennifer Williams, and Kevin Yoder! Any students interested in participating should contact me, if you have not already done so.
