Greetings to all of our math majors.
It is not too early to begin thinking about summer research
opportunities. A list of available sites can be found at
http://www.ams.org/employment/reu.html
These programs are typically 4 to 6 weeks of intensive mathematics
study. Most are aimed at mathematics students who are completing their
junior year. Applications are competitive, and financial support is
usually part of the acceptance package. These research programs
provide outstanding educational opportunities. Participation also
looks very good on job and graduate school applications.
I participated in one of these programs at Clemson University between my
own junior and senior years and found the program to be quite
rewarding. I met a much younger Alan Adolphson at the Clemson program.
I would be happy to speak with any of you regarding these opportunities.
