This week thanks to the Association of Women in Mathematics (and the efforts of Neil Hoffman and Alessandra Costantini) we have special talks by Professor Ju-Lee Kim of the Masschusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Kim is a leader in representation theory and automorphic forms. She will be giving a number theory seminar Local Langlands correspondence and (stable) Bernstein center on Thursday at 3:30 PM in MSCS 514 aimed at grad students and faculty and she will be giving a colloquium Types in representation theory of p-adic groups on Friday at 3:30 PM in MSCS 101 aimed at a genral math audience.

As an introduction to Professor Kim's are of study, our own Professor Melissa Emory will give a special talk The Langlands Program: A Grand Unified Theory on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 3:30 PM in MSCS 514. The Langlands Program is a vast system of conjectures (and now some theorems) in group theory, number theory, rpresentation theory and many related field put forth by Robert Langlands in the 1960's and 1970's.

Other opportunities to interact with Professor Kim during the week will be announced later.
