Dear colleagues,
We need to elect one Professor as a special member of the Personnel Committee to ensure that we have three voting members for a promotion case from Associate Professor to Professor. While our document does not specify the timing of this election, I decided to have it after our faculty meeting to enable the Associate Professors to see the composition of this year's Personnel Committee and have some time to consider it before making a final decision about whether to be a candidate for promotion.
The voting pool is all tenure-track/tenured faculty members except for the Head, and the candidates eligible for election are:
Jaco Kable Ku Myers Oehrtman Pritsker Wu
Please note that Cumulative Review service does not exclude one from being a special member of the Personnel Committee (2.2.3 of the 2016 Personnel Document, discussion of eligibility being determined by 2.2.5 but excluding restriction (i), which refers to service on Cumulative Review).
Ballots will be placed in mailboxes on Wednesday morning. Please turn in your ballot directly to Angie by 4:00 on Friday, August 30. If you wish to vote by proxy, please let Angie (and not me) know for whom you cast your vote, ranking your top two choices from the list of eligible members.
(We will announce the results of the Cumulative Review election on Wednesday morning, but as discussed above, that election does not affect eligibility for service as a special member on Personnel.)
Best wishes, Chris

Dear colleagues,
This afternoon, Alan and I counted the votes in the election for a special member of the Personnel Committee, and Myers had the largest number of points, so he will serve as the special member for 2019-2020. His role is limited to being the third voting member (with Crauder and Noell) on any case for promotion from Associate Professor to Professor.
Best wishes, Chris
