Dear colleagues,
Below is information about an opportunity for tenured faculty to get support for attending leadership programs. I apologize for the short notice, but we just got the information from the College this morning, and we have to turn in applications by March 11. If you are interested in this, please let me know right away, and I'll want your materials by the end of the day on March 10. If more than one person from our department has a proposal, I have to pick one to send forward.
We continue to work on communication between the College and heads so that we are not in these situations in which there is little time to prepare proposals, and I hope this will be better next year.
Best wishes, Chris

Dear Colleagues,
Once again, I would like to invite you to work with your faculty to identify leadership development opportunities that align with President Hargis’ focus on the three R’s – *Reputation, Research and Retention*. The President’s Fellows’ Leadership Initiative Committee is soliciting nominations for faculty to attend highly visible and nationally prestigious external leadership development programs, such as those offered by the American Council of Education ( http://www.acenet.edu/leadership/Pages/default.aspx), American Association of State Colleges and Universities (http://aascu.org/LeadershipDevelopment), Harvard Institutes for Higher Education ( https://www.gse.harvard.edu/ppe/harvard-institutes-higher-education-programs), Penn State’s Academic Leadership Academy (ala.psu.edu) and HERS – Leadership Training for Women in Higher Education ( http://hersnet.org/institutes/what-are-the-institutes). Please note that OSU’s HERS nominees for 2020 programs were selected in the fall 2019 to take advantage of early selection and tuition discounts.
This request for proposals (RFP) is not limited to these examples and requests for similar programs will be considered. In general, programs must be widely available to individuals from a range of disciplines represented in the University; narrowly focused programs will not be considered at the institutional level. Participation in such programs may be supported through college-level initiatives.
This RFP will typically come out twice a year (August and February); therefore, the timing of the proposed application process and program should be taken into consideration in developing the request. Potential participants should carefully review and understand the time commitment involved in both the program application process, pre-program preparation and/or program attendance. It is expected that faculty interested in participating in such programs have consulted with appropriate administrator(s) (e.g., unit head, associate dean and dean) and received the dean’s endorsement.
*Awardee Reporting Requirements*
President’s Fellows’ Leadership Initiative awardees are required to provide a formal report of their activities to the Committee. In addition, they will host sponsored Lunch and Learn Workshops for campus, which will allow their new knowledge to be shared with their colleagues.
*Faculty Nomination Packet*
- Current CV - One-Page Case Statement: describe how the proposed program participation will advance the participant’s professional career goals and contribute to OSU’s three R’s* – Reputation, Research and Retention* - Very brief statement of endorsement by the college dean
*Information for Colleges*
- Deans many nominate more than one individual and should consider the merit of the proposal with respect to enhancing the three R’s. - Nominees must be full-time, tenured faculty. - Endorsement of a nominee is a financial commitment from the College. In general, most programs will require a 50% funding match for successful nominee’s travel and program attendance. For example, a HERS program is on the order of $10,000. Cost associated with faculty salaries, and the like, are the responsibility of the employing unit. - *The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 13, 2020. Please email the nomination documents to **grad.dean@okstate.edu* grad.dean@okstate.edu* as a single pdf. *If a program has an earlier deadline, please contact me about an early submission and decision. - Notification of individuals is anticipated to be by Friday, March 27, 2020.
On behalf of the President’s Fellows’ Leadership Initiative Committee, we appreciate your efforts to identifying our emerging leaders. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us with questions. We look forward to receiving your nominations.
Best,
Sheryl Tucker, Chair
–– on behalf of the Committee: Ken Eastman, Pamela Fry, Sheila Johnson, Carlos Risco and Ron Van Den Bussche
