I'll give the following talk: Title: Thin position and its applications Abstract: Thin position is a technique for studying embedded surfaces in three-dimensional manifolds. I will give an introduction to thin position and describe some applications.

Lunch and Fall Redbud Conference

Dear Topologists and Friends of Topology: We are thinking of having a pre-seminar lunch next Thursday at the University Club, which is in the Atherton (south of the student union). If you're interested in joining us, please let me know. Also, if you teach right before or after lunch time, let me know so we can schedule lunch accordingly. Also, it looks like November 3rd is going to be the date for the Fall Redbud conference at OU. If you have a conflict with this date, please let me know ASAP. Jesse

OK, Jesse had mentioned that we might try lunches each Thursday - I know last Thursday did not turn out well - just to let you know, everyone who paid had their card credited and there was no charge.
