Hello Topologists and Friends, Sean has graciously offered to speak this Thursday. There will be a few more free spots throughout the semester, about one a month. Please let me know if you would like to give a talk. Our next open slot is Feb. 20th. Seminar will be at 3:30 on Thursday in MSCS 514. Speaker: Sean Bowman Title: The generalized wrapping number Abstract: The wrapping number of a knot in a solid torus is the minimum number of times the knots meets a meridian disk. I'll describe a generalization of this notion for knots in handlebodies and construct an infinite family of knots distinguished by this invariant.
