4.2 Housing and Cost of Living

Residence Halls

Wentz Graduate House provides housing for graduate students. Year-round accommodations are available in this residence hall along with five semester meal plan options: 375, 325, 250, 175, 100 and no meals. Each resident's room is carpeted and air-conditioned and has cable television, ethernet jack and connection with OSU's telephone service, which offers call waiting, call forwarding, speed dialing and conference calling at no additional charge. A student may also choose to subscribe to the university's long distance service at a savings of 10%. The monthly rate for Wentz is $411 single, $257 double with $150 deposit. The 325 meals plan is $309 per month ($2472 for the academic year).

University Apartments To be eligible for priority assignment to the University Apartments a graduate student must meet one of the following requirements:

These apartments, located within walking distance of the main campus, provide gas central heat, optional air conditioning, garbage disposals, utilities included in rent, furnished or unfurnished apartments, a community center for neighborhood activities, garden plots available for resident use, off street parking, local and campus telephone service and optional subscription to the university long distance carrier.

Rent rates range from $425 to $490 per month with air conditioning. Add an additional $28 per month for furnished apartments. There is a $30 application fee and a $150 deposit is required.

Off-Campus Housing

Off-campus housing is available through individual property owners, management companies, and apartment complexes. The apartment/house shopper will have access to properties in all price ranges, located at varying distances from campus-from 50 feet to 10 miles. Rents range from$350 to $750 monthly for typical 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Generally a security deposit of one half to one month's rent is required. A student willing to cook can eat for about $200 per month.

By contacting the Renter's Advisory Council and the Off Campus Student Association, the prospective student may receive a housing guide which lists rental units available in Stillwater, with information on rent rates, security deposits, furnished/unfurnished, bills paid, pets, cable television hook-ups, and central heat and air.
