Dear Friends, The Analysis group at Kent State University is happy to announce a conference "Infinite Dimensional Analysis:Celebrating Richard Aron's Work and Impact" which will be held at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Kent State University, October 28 - 30, 2016. Please, find all information about participants and the list of (preliminary) plenary speakers at www.math.kent.edu/ida2016<http://www.math.kent.edu/ida2016> Funding is available to cover the local and travel expenses of a limited number of participants. Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and members of underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply for support. Please, register (over the website) as soon as possible. INFORMAL ANALYSIS SEMINAR DEDICATED TO THE WORK OF JOE DIESTEL (March 20-21, 2010)

Dear Friends, On Saturday - Sunday, March 20-21, 2010, (best arrival date Friday, March 19/ Departure Monday, March 22) the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Kent State University will be famous but still very informal. We are happy to announce an: INFORMAL ANALYSIS SEMINAR DEDICATED TO THE WORK OF JOE DIESTEL The following people are among speakers: Peter Casazza, Hans Jarchow, Alexander Koldobsky, Pepe Orihuela, Olek Pelczynski, Thomas Schlumprecht, Lutz Weis. It would be great if you could visit Kent State and participate in the seminar! The conference will have a registration fee of $200 WHICH INCLUDES: pick up/drop off from the airport, THREE DAY STAY in the Microtel hotel at Streetsboro, Saturday/Sunday lunches/dinners to be provided at the department. If you plan to stay fewer than 3 nights or prefer to make your own accommodation arrangements, please reduce your registration fee by $45 per day that you will not use our hotel arrangements. If possible, please send a check for your registration fee, made out to the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Kent State University. The check should be mailed to Virginia Wright, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Kent State University, Kent, OH, 44242. The fee can be also be paid during the registration (check/cash). The conference is supported by NSF; The Department of Mathematical Sciences and Kent State University. Abstract: We collect several open questions in Banach spaces, mostly related to measure theoretic aspects of the theory. The problems are divided into five categories: miscellaneous problems in Banach spaces (non-separable $L_p$ spaces, compactness in Banach spaces, $w^*$-null sequences in dual spaces), measurability in Banach spaces (Baire and Borel $\sigma$-algebras, measurable selectors), vector integration (Riemann, Pettis and McShane integrals), vector measures (range and associated $L_1$ spaces) and Lebesgue-Bochner spaces (topological and structural properties, scalar convergence).. Abstract: We study density requirements on a given Banach space that guarantee the existence of subsymmetric basic sequences by extending Tsirelson's well-known space to larger index sets. We prove that for every cardinal $\kappa$ smaller than the first Mahlo cardinal there is a reflexive Banach space of density $\kappa$ without subsymmetric basic sequences. As for Tsirelson's space, our construction is based on the existence of a rich collection of homogeneous families on large index sets for which one can estimate the complexity on any given infinite set. This is used to describe detailedly the asymptotic structure of the spaces. The collections of families are of independent interest and their existence is proved inductively. Abstract: In this paper, we study nonlinear embeddings between Banach spaces. More specifically, the goal of this paper is to study weaker versions of coarse and uniform embeddability, and to provide suggestive evidences that those weaker embeddings may be stronger than one would think. We do such by proving that many known results for coarse and uniform embeddings remain valid for those weaker notions of embeddings. Abstract: In the first part of the paper we study the structure of Banach spaces with a conditional spreading basis. The geometry of such spaces exhibit a striking resemblance to the geometry of James' space. Further, we show that the averaging projections onto subspaces spanned by constant coefficient blocks with no gaps between supports are bounded. As a consequence, every Banach space with a spreading basis contains a complemented subspace with an unconditional basis. This gives an affirmative answer to a question of H. Rosenthal. The second part contains two results on Banach spaces X whose asymptotic structures are closely related to $c_0$ and do not contain a copy of $\ell_1$: i) Suppose X has a normalized weakly null basis $(x_i)$ and every spreading model $(e_i)$ of a normalized weakly null block basis satisfies $\|e_1-e_2\|=1$. Then some subsequence of $(x_i)$ is equivalent to the unit vector basis of $c_0$. This generalizes a similar theorem of Odell and Schlumprecht, and yields a new proof of the Elton-Odell theorem on the existence of infinite $1+\epsilon$-separated sequences in the unit sphere of an arbitrary infinite dimensional Banach space. ii) Suppose that all asymptotic models of $X$ generated by weakly null arrays are equivalent to the unit vector basis of $c_0$. Then $X^*$ is separable and $X$ is asymptotic-$c_0$ with respect to a shrinking basis $(y_i)$ of $Y\supseteq X$. Abstract: In this paper we discuss the structure of Orlicz spaces and weak Orlicz spaces on $R_n$. We obtain some necessary and sufficient conditions for the inclusion property of these spaces. Abstract: We introduce the concepts of Pe{\l}czy\'{n}ski's property $(V)$ of order $p$ and Pe{\l}czy\'{n}ski's property $(V^*)$ of order $p$. It is proved that, for each $1<p<\infty$, the James $p$-space $J_p$ enjoys Pe{\l}czy\'{n}ski's property $(V^*)$ of order $p$ and the James $p^*$-space $J_{p^*}$ (where $p^*$ denotes the conjugate number of $p$) enjoys Pe{\l}czy\'{n}ski's property $(V)$ of order $p$. We prove that both $L_1(\mu)$ ($\mu$ a finite positive measure) and $\ell_1$ enjoy the quantitative version of Pe{\l}czy\'{n}ski's property $(V^*)$.
